“The real night people live at night not out of necessity, but because they they want to. They belong to the world of pleasure and love, a secret suspicious world closed to the uninitiated "
Brassaï
(1899-1984)
Encouraged by his fellow Hungarian emigre, André Kértész, to take up photography after finding painting too 'slow' and lacking immediacy, Brassaï finally found his true 'calling'.
His seminal book Paris de Nuit had a profound affect on me as I too discovered photography and it’s power and it’s sense of constant insight into worlds I knew nothing about.
I still to this day look at this book often and never fail to be amazed by it - a testament to Brassaï’s prodigious vision and talent.
