“The League taught me that no matter how original and talented the photographers vision might berth, ultimate success of the photograph was mutually dependent on the photographer and the world of reality around him or her. Not to ignore, but on the contrary to concentrate his or her talents on everyday working people and what was immediately around them in terms of living and environment”
~ Louis Stettner

ENQUIRE ABOUT THIS WORK
Louis was a member and student in the much heralded New York Photo League headed up by Sid Grossman. He imbibed their philosophy and respect for everyday life. His life long values learnt there manifests itself in all his key photos.
One day Louis showed me the maquette of his book on Penn Station which he had always dreamed of getting published which had yet to happen. I was so inspired by it to kick down the doors on his behalf and after several rejections we found a home for it at Thames and Hudson, a wonderful book publisher where my friend Christopher Sweet, a great editor there at the time, shared our vision and helped push it through. This is one of the magical images in the book, a must for any photo book aficionado.
