"I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living."

ENQUIRE ABOUT THIS WORK

Created by sculptor Lee Lawrie, Atlas was installed in the courtyard of the International Building in Rockefeller Center, in 1937. Designed in the Art Deco style, and made of bronze, the greek titan is depicted holding the heavens on his shoulders.

He is a landmark of the plaza and one New York's icons. But for those star gazers, you will also notice that within his celestial vault, the north-south axis of the armillary sphere points towards the North Star as seen from New York City.
