“There is a brief moment when all that there’s in a man’s mind and soul and spirit may be reflected through his eyes, his hands his attitude. This is the moment to record. This is the elusive “moment of truth”."
~ Yousuf Karsh
(1908 - 2002)
“If I don’t practice one day, I know it.
Two days the critics know it. Three days the public knows it”
~ Jascha Heifetz
(1901 - 1987)
ENQUIRE ABOUT THIS WORK
Jascha Heifetz was one of the greatest violinists of all time. I saw him once perform growing up in London. Just unforgettable.
Born in Russia he was soon recognized as a child prodigy and was trained in the Russian classical violin style in St Petersburg. Accompanying his parents to escape the violence of the Russian Revolution he moved to the US as a teenager where his Carnegie Hall debut was rapturously received. Fritz Kreisler, another leading violinist of the 20th century said after hearing Heifetz’s debut “We might as well take our fiddles and break them across our knees”.
Karsh’s genius was not to do a traditional full figure portrait, but just to focus on his special hands.
