Horst’s eye saw beauty everywhere even when he least expected to. He saw these dancers wearing costumes designed by no other than the great surrealist painter Salvador Dali rehearsing for Leonid Massine’s ballet “Bacchanale” in Paris in 1939.

It certainly is one of Horst’s most beautiful photographs and was first published In Vogue in 1939. He poured all he had learnt about lighting from his mentor Huene into this image to create such a dramatic and moving effect.
