“It was a joyous route, such magnificent sights and human splendor along the way that difficulties magically effaced themselves. One regretted nothing and would have it no other way”
~ Louis Stettner
(1922-2016)
Louis had that great essential talent necessary for a long and productive career in social documentary photography...“empathy”. There is such tenderness towards his subjects especially in his groundbreaking Penn Station series. A single frame here tells a story that connects us to this woman on a deeply human level, presumably on her way to her job to help support her life, and possibly her family....the daily commute.
