Yellowstone National Park has nearly 60% of the world’s geysers and “Old Faithful” received its name as it erupts every 90 minutes making it the most predictable geographic feature on Earth.
Ansel first shot there in 1942. It was in the middle of the war, gas rationing was in place. He couldn’t drive there and he had to take challenging public transport carrying heavy equipment. Talk about dedication and suffering for your art. The park is deserted, no hordes of tourists. He was there because he was a passionate human being who believed in his art and his quest for spirituality. He found redemption as many of us do in solitary contemplation of the untouched beauty of the natural world. This is his true legacy and something we all need to adhere to in the effort to preserve this fragile world.
