Neil Folberg was born in 1950 in San Francisco, California. When he was just 16 years old he began his photographic journey studying with Ansel Adams. He received a special grant from the University of California, Berkeley to pursue an undergraduate degree in photography in Yugoslav Macedonia. He married his wife in 1975 and moved to Israel in 1976.

 

In 1992, he was commissioned by the Aperture Foundation to photograph historic synagogues of the world for a four-year book project. The project was called: “And I Shall Dwell Among Them: Historic Synagogues of the World” and was exhibited worldwide. 

 

Folberg resides in Isreal and runs Vision Neil Folberg Gallery in Jerusalem.
